Dave's PhotoJournal for June 4th, Part 2 of 3

Part 1 Up Part 3

Summary

Part 2, Silver Mountain Ski Area to western Montana.

Continued driving east on I-90, to Kellogg, Idaho. I saw a sign saying that Silver Mountain Ski Area was in Kellogg, and I rememebered hearing somewhere that they have a gondola running in the summer, so I stopped by to check it out. Turns out the gondola doesn't open until June 23rd or something. So I took a couple pictures, and kept going.

Drove the rest of the way through the Idaho panhandle on I-90, and went up over Lookout Pass into Montana. Lookout Pass is where we very nearly ran out of gas in the middle of the night on our trip to Big Mountain, Montana (March 12th - 16th), so I stopped by to see what it looked like during daylight hours. As I was leaving there, saw a little side road that went off into the forest, so I drove a little ways down it, but since the guy in the gift shop mentioned that it dead ended around a few ponds and such, and plus I wanted to get a lot more distance under my belt today, I only went down it a little ways.

Hills surrounding Kellogg, Idaho, from I-90.

Looking up at the path of the Silver Mountain gondola, from the parking lot.

Sign in front of the Silver Mountain stuff.

The gondola was closed until June twenty somethingth, but things weren't boarded up or anything, so I was able to walk around the building, and see the gondolas and such.

Looking out from the gondola building.

The buildings at the bottom of the gondola, seen from across the road.

My car in the parking lot. The fact that the gift shop was open was amazing.

I was so happy to see this sign going up Lookout Pass.

Sign on the offramp from I-90 pointing to the ski area.

The Lookout Pass "Lodge", from the parking lot.

School buses that I imagine are used to transport skiers up to the pass and back during winter months.

Looking up at the ski hill from the gift shop.

Looking back toward the parking lot, past the ski patrol hut.

The little side road that spit off into the forest near Lookout Pass.

Saw this squished looking dead bug sitting on my vent control knob. I have no idea how this situation came about.

Creek seen along the little side road. You would be able to see mountains in the background had I exposed the picture differently.
