Part 2, Exploring the Coast Mountains

After walking around the village and surrounding area, we decided to go for a drive. Because I'm too lazy to provide too many details, I'll just say we ended up on a road that follows the Squamish River for quite a ways. We went as far as we felt like going, but it started getting late and dark, so we decided to head back to Whistler to get some dinner. Still a lot left to explore for next time.

View up the Squamish River.

Looking the other way.

Even the undergrowth changes colors. I took a bunch of pictures here, because I loved all the detail that came out in the pictures, and the sun had that perfect, warm, late afternoon yellow hue to it.

Close up on one of those big leaves.

More undergrowth.

Crinkled up yellow leaves.

Crinkly leaves with mountains in the background.

Undergrowth with view. I almost put this in rate dave's photos, but just before I did, I realized that, even though it's got a lot of delicious detail in it, in the end it's just a picture of some weeds.

I still love the color though.

Some of the cool, autumn leaves above me.

Some of the big peaks surrounding us while we were driving along the road.

Some big peaks across the river. The lighting made it impossible to get a really well exposed picture. Since it was such a deep river valley, the sun couldn't get in, so it was all in shadow. Which makes for poorly exposed pictures. Sorry.

Exposed slightly differently.

Darker, so you can see the blue sky.

A really pretty, super sharp peak. I tried for awhile to figure out what mountain this is, but in the end, I was unable. The map I've got just doesn't label the peaks with enough detail. It's near Mt. Callaghan, perhaps even in the same ridge line, but I don't think it's actually considered Mt. Callaghan. It may also be Mt. Dionne, or Mt. Serratus. I'm going to guess Serratus, because it's similar to "serrated", which would be appropriate. But we will never know.

This picture can be seen in Rate Dave's Photos.

Somebody left this weird sign in the middle of one of the little roads that spit off to the right. We never did figure out what it was for.

Julie in the car.

Nice view up one of the drainages that came down to the river. I can't remember if this was looking up Mud Creek or Turbid Creek, but you can see that same peak again, on the left. Maybe it is Mt. Callaghan. Hmm.

Glacier across the river again. The road hugged the eastern side of the river all the way up.

Closeup on the summit of whatever mountain that was across the river.

We came back to town and had dinner at Splitz. Always a good choice.

Me at Splitz.

A view of some of the pores on Julie's face.

Bleh.
